Here's the deal: I'm dedicated to my undergrad in just about every way, sports, academics, you name it. So naturally, it's extremely hard to root for another college football team. This said, it took me awhile to warm up to the Ducks, but as fall quarter plugged along I felt better about rooting for the Ducks in addition to the Badgers.
It also helped that I found out student tickets to UO games are FREE. Yes, FREE (if you are lucky enough to receive them in the weekly home game lottery). So, by the time I was actually in town, not sick, or busy, the only game left to try and get tickets for was the Civil War. A little background: Oregon has two D-1 NCAA football teams, the Oregon Ducks (University of Oregon) and The Beavers (Oregon State University). Every year the two teams play each other in the rival game called the Civil War (fitting, right?)
A big event in and of itself, the Civil War was exponentially bigger this year because the winner goes to Pasadena for the Pac-10 vs. Big Ten showdown in The Rose Bowl. Even after my four years in Madison, I'd never been fortunate enough to watch a game with such high stakes!
After a stressful process (the server crashed due to high levels of activity) of signing online and getting tickets (ahem, during my Monday night class), I got to attend the game with a few of my close friends.
Next up for the Ducks: Ohio State on Jan. 1, 2010. Even though I hail from the Big Ten, if you didn't attend Ohio State, you hate Ohio State, so goooooo Ducks!
It was no Camp Randall, but it was a great game, it was free, and we won!
(A group of us outside Autzen before the game)
(Autzen Stadium, it's apparently the loudest stadium to play in-which I believe- I had to shout to speak to whoever was standing next to me!)
(A few of us rushed the field, ha)
